If there are no other lessons learned by people trying to save their school, DON'T MAKE DECISIONS IN A VACUUM THAT ARE NOT COMMUNICATED. That was the single largest reason for the failure of our school and the effort to save it. Good Luck in the Future, George Niece, SOS Co-chair As member of The North End Business Association (NEBA), I fully support all efforts by the "Save Saint Bernard's" group to keep our high school operating. This venerable institution has been a part of our community for 119 years. It is truly the anchor of the north end, and it's most visible entity. The administration, teachers, and students are actively involved in community projects that actively improve our entire area. It would be a great loss to the community if we were to lose St. Bernards. We all want this institution to continue their missions, as they greatly add to the quality of life for our community. Please offer your support and assistance in anyway you can. We sincerely thank you. Signed Jeffrey D. He may be right about parts of the education system. But at Saint Bernard's 99 percent of the St. Bernard's students graduate on time and 90-95 percent continue to college. These kids aren't some cherry picked bunch whose parents run Fortune 500 companies. These kids come from families like yours and mine. If you care to help please go to http://www.savesaintbernards.com/Donate.html I have been told that if you want you can specify that the funds will only be used if the school remains open and returned to you if it doesn't. Think about digging a little deeper this time than you may have in the past, and let them know if your company matches donations. Think about it and if you care about the future of a couple hundred kids in the Twin Cities spend a few minutes and make a donation. Feel free to pass this along any friends or relatives who may be willing to help the future. Tom Weyandt, Class of 67 Click here to read more Dear Classmates, Last night I walked through the halls of St. Bernard's High School for the first time since 1961. I was there to attend a meeting which was supposed to be about organizing an alumni association but quickly turned into a discussion of the pending closing of the school and the passionate drive now underway to save the school. Later, as I was walking to my car in a full parking lot, all the lights were on in the old gym, there was a basketball game in progress and the crowd inside was roaring so loud I glanced at the roof to see if it was moving. The roof didn't move. But I did. There is a strong spirit in that school that deserves to continue, and I decided I wanted to help. I'm hoping you will, too. ... This will allow the IB program to get fully launched and allow us to do the marketing to bring additional students in. With the closing of the elementary school last year we lost a number of students and with the flux going on right now we might lose additional students next year. Our goal is to guarantee that any students who come into 9th grade next year graduate in 2014 from our school What can you do? Pray, Volunteer, Give, Spread the Word. All these options are possible avenues for you to express your support.
